Bye Bye 2008

How was your whole 2008? I bet it was memorable and amazing.
Finally, it's time to say "Goodbye" to the year of 2008 and "Welcome" to the fresh start of 2009 where you will spend the next 365 days living your life. In such a blink of an eye, a year has gone by leaving both good and bad times, cheerfulness and sadness, ups and downs that we have been through. Today is the last day of 2008. It's time to ask ourselves or a family member or a friend some interesting questions:
1. What have you accomplished over the last 12 months?
2. When was the moment that you were proud of yourself?
3. What positive and negative changes have you made?
4. What have you learnt from last year mistakes? Name three.
5. What was the best thing that happened to you this year?
6. Who have always been there when you needed the most?
7. Who did you think about when you were lonely?
8. What's something you go through that was really tough?
9. What new people did you meet that are now in your life?
10. What character trait did you develop most this year?

I want you to take your time think of the questions before you give the answers. Some of them may take time and are not easy to answer right away. This is a way you can keep progress of yourself and help your mind focus on what and who matters to you.

Whether they are big or small, long term or short-term goals over the next 12 months, you must have goals. Goals is like a guide book when you are in a new town, like a candle when you are in darkness, like a motivator behind your back. You can make everyday closer and closer to your goals where your dreams come true. However, goals should be realistic. Below are things to consider about:
- Improve your social life by making more friends or builiding stronger relationship if you have had enough
- Be more financially successful though the world economy is collapsing
- Finding the love of your life, your soul mate.
- Pursue a higher education
- Losing the weight or staying fit
- Love yourself more than ever
- Learn new skills: photoshop eidtor-i.e.
- Visiting new places, and old friends
- Returning home

My Ipod Family

Finally, my long-awaited Ipod Shuffle which i had ordered online five days ago arrived today. One reason i like online shopping is that it gives me a thrill (somehow exciting) whenever i recieve my order. In other words, it makes me feel like living with a goal (waiting for something) and purpose (what to do next when i get it). By acknowleding the things that make me happy can definitely lead me to a happier life. With goals and purposes, my daily life is meaningful. In constrast, without them, it is meaningless. I want to make a huge leap to reach my ultimate goal but it seems that the cliche "Rome wasn't built in one day." is true. I believe that each day is a stepping stone on the road of success. There are always obstacles, but as long as i don't give up, i will overcome. Ok, first i was talking about ipod and then about goals, success. Geez. No relevance. Let's go back to ipod and then just ipod, nothing else.

From left to right:
1. My first Ipod series, Ipod Classic 80Gb: this guy is 20Gb bigger in hard disk size than my laptop. Having it is like having whole gallery of media in my pocket.
2. The second ipod i got, Ipod Touch 16Gb: this guy is almost like a pocket pc, it saves me a lot of time. I used my laptop less after i got it.
3. Welcome the newbie of the family, Ipod Shuffle 1Gb: with its small size and back clip holder, it is convenient for my gym workout and on the go.
However, my first ever mp3 player is this one. I haven't touched it for a long time. Love it still.
PS: Seriously, i don't mean to show off.

Freezing Day Begins

"Brrrrrrrrrrr" It's freezing cold. As of today, the temperature in Redmond is 27F (-2.7c). I was recently asked whether i prefered living in a hot or cold weather. I then answered i prefered winter to summer due to the fact that i don't want to have darker skin. Snow had been falling heavily that my car was covered with it. Snow can be beautiful but it causes more disadvantages than advantages. Examples include difficulties and risks in driving, wiping your car before you leave, staying at home all day, you name it because i don't know other reasons. Lolz. One good thing about snowing is CLASS CANCELLATION. What? I'm such a lazy student. Yes i am.

First up, i was snow-writing "I LOVE YOU" for everyone i love, esp my mum, but i couldn't do it. So i did this instead. It has the same meaning.

This is the first time i made a heart-sharp snowball. My clothes were all dirty and my hands were numb.

Question: is snow edible? Of course, it is, but chance is you might have diarrhea after all.

It is the same spot i took a picture last year.
Taken from window. Does it look sad and lonely at all? Kinda.
That's it for today. Happy Holidays.

Art of listening

Hmmm? What's that? Pardon? Can you say that again? If you like such questions, you listen with one ear...the other is reserved for your cell phone, conversation at adjacent tables or the mention of your own name by someone else in the room. Other reasons include you are trying to generate your what u want to say rather than listening, or your thoughts are occupied with other things. It's not too late to know that you might hurt the talking person in a way that her words are not being taken seriously and plain ignored. Put it this way, you don't value what they have to say. Unless you are good at pretending, they could feel it. It is even more unacceptable to be pretending to listen while you are looking away at something else. If you are not interested in the conversation, you should try to change the topic or frankly set the time limit like "I have a couple more minutes then i got to go. Tell me more when you have a chance. I definately want to hear it." or something nice you can think of.

I had a friend in high school whom i believe to be an excellent listener. Every time i said something he always opened both his eyes the size of a fried egg(just exxagerating) looking straight at mine, and his ears seemed to be ready to absorb anything, and his mouth opened up accordingly to a big or a little surprise. He made it like every word he heard is his oxygen. He didn't talk about his part a lot but asked and listened attentively. He started his sentence with "You .... or We....." not "I....., My......, Myself...." He rarely interrupted unless it was important enough to get to the point. By the way he was not an alien, though he looked like (sometimes) lolz.

Having someone around to listen is a gift. You can have a great conversation with someone even with your mouth less open, but your heart more open. Like any skills, you can practice listening everyday until it becomes second nature. You can learn a lot more from people by focusing on listening and asking than by talking about your own storyline. I don't mean that you should not talk about yourself at all but at least you should make sure listening is also a part of your conversation. And of course, even though i couldn't hear what you want to say, i am listening to what you have to comment. P-)

Thanksgiving

In just 30 minutes, the day of Thanksgiving arrives. This year Thanksgiving falls on the 24th of November, the same day that my Uncle and Aunt leaving for a delightful trip to Mexico. Speaking of that, the fear of being at home alone strikes my heart. I am really fearful of loneliness, quietness and darkness. Sigh, i inevitably have to live my life by myself one day.
Thanksgiving also reminds me of a comedy part where Mr. Bean's head got trapped inside a huge turkey. It was too funny. Just thinking about makes me giggle. To me, Thanksgiving marks a family reunion having a feast where turkey is probably the main menu and a start of the holiday shopping season. I have a little plan tomorrow:
- Drive my Uncle and Aunt to the airport
- Vacuum my room and have my clothes washed
- Go to the gym
- Go to a relative's house for Thanksgiving celebration (That's a good part of tomorrow)
After tomorrow, i am heading for my weekend work again. Guess what, I am not going to enjoy the Black Friday. I don't understand why people go shopping at 4 o'clock in the morning till midnight. The mall merchandise is going to be wiped away by shoppers.

Fact: Seattle

Introduction
The largest city in the pacific northwest, Seattle is located about 96 miles from the U.S Canadian border and sits between Lake Washington and the Puget Sound. Seattle is known for being the birthplace of 90's grunge music, the home for many high-tech companies and a large population of coffee addicts.
Highlights
The Seattle Space Needle was built for the 1962 World's Fair, it hosts a 520 ft observation deck, the SkyCity restaurant at 500 ft and a gift shop. It sits in the center of Seattle Center, near downtown, and invites tourists to ascend to the top and take in the view.
Pike Place Market in downtown is the oldest continually operated pulic farmer's market in the country. People come from all over to find everything from antiques to flying fish to the original Starbucks.
The Seattle Central Library was opened in 2004, houses 1.45 millions books and 400 publicly accessible computers.
Getting Here
By plane: Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA-TAC) connects Seattle to all regions of the world. It is the Alaska Airlines hub, so Alaska often has direct flights to and from Seattle somewhat cheaper fares. The airport is approximately 25 minutes from downtown. Sveral options exist to get to and from the airport:
- King Country Metro (public bus) can get you downtown for $2 on the 194 or 174 routes. The trip can take between 45 and 60 minutes.
- Taxi will go downtown for $28. This takes about 20 minutes depending on traffic.
-Rental car: rentals can be less than $12/day (plus 18% tax, hotel parketking fees, etc). Beware that taking an airport rental will add an additional 11% airport tax surcharge. Renting from a downtown location will save a considerable amount of money.
- Commercial Shuttle Buses run between $5 and $30 depending on how far you want to go. They tend to be cheaper than a taxi and faster than the public bus.
By train
Amtrack provides services to Seattle from Portland, Vancouver, and other locations to the south and to the east. The King Street Station is located south of downtown near Safeco Field.
By car
Interstate 5 (I5) runs all along the western coast, cutting right through Seattle, and the Interstate 9 (I9) runs from Seattle to Boston. Seattle has poor streets that can cause bad congestion at rush hour.
Getting Around
Most North-South streets are labeled "Avenues" and East-West streets are labeled "Streets." Also, the city is roughly split into a 3x3 grid with specific directional centers (E, SW, W, S, N, NE, & NW.) Street addresses have the center before the address (Ex. NE 45st St) while Avenue addresses write the center after the address (45th Ave NE)
By Mass Transit
King Country Metro has electric, hybrid and diesel buses that run to all parts of the city. Bus fare is usually $1.25, but during rush hours (Mon-Fri 6am-9am & 3pm-6pm) it is $1.50. Also note that when getting on in downtown you pay when you get off, and bus travel within downtown is totally free. The Trip Planner Website has accurate information to help you find out what bus to take and when.
Weather and Climate
Despite having a reputation for rain, Seattle rarely has extreme downpours. This reputation derives from an average of 226 cloudy days every year (vs. 132 for New York City.) The majority of precipitation is classified as drizzle or light rain, with only 34.3 inches of precipitation per year. The average low temperature in the winter is between 35-40F (2-4 C) and in the summer months has highs of 75-80 F (24-27 C)

S.E.X HEALTH: Quick-4 minute Guide

SLEEP
GO TO SLEEP, CLOSE YOUR EYES....zZz
Why: Growth hormones kick into high gear when your peepers (eyes) are sleeping. Close them when people (like your teachers) don't mind seeing your eyelids. You'll be in a better mood with more shut-eye too.
What: Sleep makes your more alert. Your body just plain needs a recharge every day. Maybe that's why it gets darks so often...
When: You need your beauty sleep even if you are sitting for an exam tomorrow. It makes sense to say that because you are sitting for an exam tomorrow, you need your beauty sleep. The more hours you sleep before midnight, the better your body recharges.
Where: Bed and blanket is best. TV and music can be disturbing at night. Turn them off and let your brain create nighttime images.

EAT
YOU EAT IT; YOU NEED IT.
Why: Energy. Food in = movement and brain power out. It's a simple formula that every creature on the planet is designed to follow.
What: Get "grained." Kick your bad eating habits by replacing them with smarter choices: Grains, Vegetables, Fruits, Milk, Meat & Beans.
When: Start right. Skipping breakfast is like running a race without your track shoes. Eat smaller portions more often, rather than eating larger meals less frequently.
Where: When you follow "What" you'll hit the fast food places less and rediscover the vegetable crisper in your and your friend's refrigerator. (Carrots are really good for your eyesight!)
How: No lessons needed here. Save starving for a day that won't come and just chew with your mouth closed!

EXERCISE
JUST MOVE IT
Why: Bodies were made to move. (If they weren't you probably couldn't make a clean get away from that loud neighbor dog.)
What: Swim, stretch, lift weights, skip, jog, walk, row, you name it.
When: Whenever, as long as "now" is part of it. Why wait?
Where: Wherever. Start a routine or join a team. Whatever gets your heart pumping and body moving is going to be good for your body, heart, soul, and mind. Even if you just increase your pace on things you do every day... or take the stairs instead of the elevator...
How: However you can. Start big or start small, just don't let yourself NOT start at all. Just move it.

She's the one!

It's a regular day. Everything is regular, the sun, the sky, the tree and the building. I was in my regular seven-hour work shift doing regular sale. Then there was one thing not-so-regular happening. Of course, there was someone i have been longing to see appeared in front of me. I didn't know since when she was here, but it didn't matter any more. I ran as fast as i could towards her, but careful enough not to embarrass myself by tripping or knocking her and myself down. She stood still looking at me as i ran, with a lovely warm-hearted smile. I stretched and wrapped my arms all around her for half a minute. That was the moment i have been waiting for and dying to do. As I felt her presence within me, i asked, "Mum, how did you come here?". "I came here to visit you," she told. "How long are you staying here?" I continued. "Just one day," she said. I thought that was a very short time, but maybe there was a reason for that. Then without thinking, i left my work and walked away with my beloved mum....

That was just a dream i had last night. That dream would have lasted longer if my nature hadn't called me in the middle of the night. Just write down so that i don't forget my own dream since this is the only way i could see her, spiritually.

Mum, i know you are not reading this, nor could you fully understand when you are reading it. But i promise you, that very dream will become true the very next day i see you.

Modified Einstein's Riddle

Today i had a pop-up quiz at school. In an instant, i thought it would be one of those boring, must-get-A tests as usual, the one that you don't like to do, but you have to. Surprisingly, it turned to be one of my old time favorite kind of riddle i liked playing in high school, yet still full with fresh memory.

Einstein said that if anyone could solve this riddle less than 15 minutes, they are a genuis. My 30 minutes just proved myself that i am not a genuis. Time limit is 45 minutes. Why not give it a try?

This is my so-call modified version "Rattank's Riddle":

Facts:
1. There are 5 houses of 5 different color arranged in a straight row.
2. Within each house lives a different owner, all have different name.
3. Each of the 5 owners drinks a certain type of beverage, drives a different vehicle, and keep a certain pet. None of them have things in common.

Hints:
1. Rattanak lives in the red house.
2. Kimleng keeps cats as pets
3. Pheary drinks tea for fun.
4. The green house is on the left of the white house.
5. The green house owner drinks coffee.
6. The person who drive Toyota enjoys watching fish.
7. The owner of the yellow house drive a Nissan.
8. The owner living in the middle drinks Coke.
9. Leakhena lives in the first house.
10. The Honda driver lives next to the one who keep rabbits.
11. The owner who keeps the bird lives next to the one who drives a Nissan.
12. The owner who ride a Viva motorbike drinks milk.
13. Sokhour drives a Chevrolet.
14. Leakhena lives next to the blue house.
15. The owner who drives a Honda has neighbor who drinks Pepsi.

The question is: Who owns the dog?

Note: it takes me longer writing this riddle than solving it. So don't give up and have fun.

Pessimist Vs Optimist

Who is a pessimist? Pessimists
¨ are unhappy when they have no troubles to speak
¨ feel bad when they feel good, for fear they will feel worse when they feel better
¨ spend most of their life at complaint counters
¨ always turn out the lights to see how dark it is
¨ are always looking for cracks in the mirror of life
¨ stop sleeping in bed when they hear that more people die in bed than anywhere else
¨ cannot enjoy their health because they think they may be sick tomorrow
¨ not only expect the worst but make the worst of whatever happens
¨ don't see the doughnut, only the hole
¨ believe that the sun shines only to cast shadows
¨ forget their blessings and count their troubles
¨ know that hard work never hurts anyone but believe "why take a chance?"

Who is an optimist? It is well described by the following:
- Be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
- Talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet.
- Make all your friends feel there is something in them.
- Look at the sunny side of everything.
- Think only of the best, work only for the best, and expect only the best.
- Be as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
- Forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
- Give everyone a smile.
- Spend so much time improving yourself that you have no time left to criticize others.
- Be too big for worry and too noble for anger.

The new 2nd generation Ipod Touch

Personally speaking, Ipod Touch from Apple is one of the most innovative products in the market's latest technology. This 115 grams device makes me feel like holding all sources of media entertainment and productivity combination. Below is my own review on how great this thing is:

- 3.5" multi-touch screen
- Sleek interface design
- Built-in speaker and volume control button
- Wi-Fi connectivity
- Accelerator-taking gaming and viewing picture to another level.
- World's most popular video sharing site: Youtube
- Safari browser supporting graphical data
- Itune Store
- Genuis Playlist
- tons SDK and web applications.
- Nike + Support
- a bunch of accessories to pay for more
- etc...

What the Ipod touch lacks:
- Phone connectivity (sure, or it will become an iphone)
- Bluetooth (i doubt it has)
- A Camera
- FM tuner and transmitter (there is an accessory for this)
- Audio recorder
- Flash Player (for sites like imeem, hi5, khmer.be)
- GPS

Hopefully, one day we will have a device that could do all those things combined.

Life Phylosophy

This is probably the most important post i have ever wrote because i put all the pieces of life lesson puzzles together. A tree can stand tall because of its root. The better the root is, the stronger the tree is. Similarly, a man depends on his beliefs to succeed. Beliefs are the core, the essential part of your being, the inner you; in other words, the person inside you. Positive beliefs lead to positive attitude and positve mind set which affect every part of your life and relationship. As much as i wish i want to systematically install the following beliefs inside myself.

1. By default, people are born with good heart. By good heart, i mean they are good persons with honesty and integrity.

2. People are generally open to conversation. They may look a little mean, but we cannot tell if they like to talk or not, unless we start talking.

3. If you are too tired of saying hello, just smile to people and count how many smiles you get back. You won't believe it. Smile is the best conversation opener.

4. By telling myself i like people i talk to, i become a better conversationalist. I am even better if i talk with people i don't like, and people who don't like me.

5. The first step to make people like you is to like yourself in the first place. If you don't like yourself, why should other?

6. Know what make you happy and what make you unhappy. Do only what make you happy. Know your strenght and weakness. Keep your strenght, improve your weakness.

7. Learn something new everyday, you will be amazed by the end of the month how knowledgeable you are.

8. Play with a child in your free time. But don't act childish.

9. Don't overthink, don't overanalyse, don't spend a second try to think what other are thinking of you or it will take your own peace away. They are too busy thinking about themselves.

10. Don't forget to breath, this is the most important task.

Randomly Crazy Ideas

If you were born a camera-friendly person, you can ignore this post since you know it best in front of the zooming lens. If you were not, don't worry. You are not the only person and not everyone feel comfortable when their whole image being watched and taken. I know this because i am myself sometimes expressionless and body language dead-lock after all. My body turns pretty stiffed and my hands cannot find a good position besides resting in my pockets. My lips turn dry and a smile is hardly natural. Enough for this little drama.

Luckily there are rules to be learnt in almost any aspects of life-from learning to walk and talk to taking a picture. Unlike a model who needs to subconsciously communicate through his or her facial expression and body language in order to sell or promote a product, we only need to have a simply lovely photo. First thing first, SMILE is the most important ingredient of your whole picture recipe. If you can't do anything else, just smile. A way to find your best smile can be:
- looking into the mirror and smile and see whether you smile too much or too little.
- looking at your previous photos and see which one has the best smile. Next time, all you have to do is to follow that picture.
- say CHEESE or GEEZE.
- pretend that the photographer is your lover and you must smile at him/her from the bottom of your heart.
Now you have mastered your smiling skill, we can jump to body language, mainly your hands. One of the most popular gesture is a V finger. That's very simple yet quite universal. As a process, we can learn from easy steps before we move up to complex hip-hop move. Therefore, I have compiled a selection of various photo styles that would help as a basic idea.

Inner Work and Mental Preparation

Extract : Change Yourself by David Deangelo

We’ve explored how powerful our subconscious is and how important it is to ensure it’s a positive factor. Don’t criticize yourself when you talk to yourself, don’t tell yourself you’re bad, ask why you were so stupid, or why you’re screwing up. When something doesn’t go exactly as you wanted, just visualize the improved way you’d like it to go next time and shrug it off as okay for now. Make it a habit to be nice to your unconscious through positive self- talk, affirmation, and visualizations. The following exercises will use your conscious thought to create positivity into your subconscious.

Exercise #1: Controlling Your Emotions and Inner States
Now to address the idea of 'states'. By 'state' I mean the feeling that you have in your body. Many guys that I know make themselves feel horrible when they think of the idea of meeting women. This way just doesn't help. Can you remember a time when you felt happy and excited? Can you remember a time when you felt powerful and nergetic? If you can, then you can HAVE THESE FEELINGS ANY TIME YOU WANT THEM. Most people don't use their memories to help them feel good because they say "Well, that's not really how I'm feeling, I'm just imagining it." Well, I have news for you: You're ALWAYS just imagining it. You might as well imagine it at times when you need it instead of having it happen on accident!
Here's how to apply this idea: Write down three states that you'd like to be able to put yourself into anytime you'd like. Then, write down three times in your life when you felt each of those states. Finally, close your eyes and put yourself into each of the three situations that made you feel the state that you want. Also, do SOMETHING UNIQUE with your body as you're remembering. For instance, if you'd like to feel powerful and confident, while you're remembering times when you felt this way, breathe out quickly while puckering your lips. If you do this process of remembering the states and exhaling quickly at the same time, all you have to do in the future is close your eyes, breathe out quickly while remembering the feelings, and you'll have the states that you want. It's like having a ‘push’ button for feeling good about yourself. Next, you have to practice putting yourself into your three powerful states when you're in different environments. So go to different places and practice getting yourself into your states with distractions, etc. This might take some doing, but once you have it mastered, you'll be able to get yourself into a positive state when you're not feeling it to begin with (Could this exercise be useful when you're feeling shy or afraid to meet someone? Maybe!)

Exercise #2: Ideal Self-Image
Start this exercise by closing your eyes and making a picture of the you that you would like to become. Imagine how you would be standing, how you’d be breathing, what you’d be wearing, the expression on your face, etc. Now go a little further and imagine what would be inside that ideal self: the beliefs you’d have, how you would deal with different situations, why your posture is held that way—because you were confident, relaxed, etc. Finally, imagine what is behind that ideal self; what are some of the things that ideal self would have been through to have that image, what are the experiences that formed its beliefs, etc. Get the whole image together and make it as vivid as you possibly can. You can always go back, add, or change this image as you think of things you forgot to add or want to modify. Now take that image and throw it up in the air so far that it’s just a tiny dot you can’t even see anymore. Now watch it multiply into a million of them which start falling down all around you in every direction— into your past, your future, ahead and behind, above and below, everywhere. See it inside all the experiences you’re going to have and everywhere you can look, all the way to the horizon. Get all you need, then come back and open your eyes. I’ve done this exercise for years. It can be used any time you want, at a crowded bar, a concert, a business meeting, etc. Just do it and see it everywhere. The more you do it, the more you will become this person.

Exercise #3: Timeline
The timeline exercise is a little more involved so you’ll want to get comfortable before you close your eyes. Imagine there’s a line that represents your life. The past might be behind and the future ahead, or the past could be to your left and the future on the right, wherever they naturally happen to lie for you. Next imagine that you’re starting to float and slowly rise up and above the line. See it from a different perspective, remembering the spot where you were. Gently float backwards over it while looking down and seeing recent experiences go by. Accelerate as you go further back to times when your significant memories are spaced further apart, all the way back to beginning of line. Now land at the spot where it begins. Perhaps you even see the lines of your mother and father crossing your line. Take one step back to just before the very start of your line. Now imagine an eternal source of love as a glowing golden light floating in through top of our head, through your heart, and out your chest onto the beginning of our timeline. As it starts pouring out, it starts to light up your timeline. Light it up a little at first and make your timeline glow brighter as light continues to flow. It’s lighting up the line further and further out.
You might see dark spots that represent trauma, things that happened when you were younger but as more light pours the more you relaxed you become and the more those dark spots lighten up. You might start to feel better as light lightens up the line. Think that energy and float up over your timeline. Notice how the dark spots are brighter and you might have a brighter feeling about them, you might float forward to now and see dark spots reframed in a different way as learning experiences. With a relaxing breath you come back to now and open your eyes. Do whatever you want inside your own personal time and space, and use this exercise to heal and recharge yourself. Though the effects may fade a little days later, each time you do it they can become a little more permanent and even the blackest spots can be lightened with enough healing energy.

Exercise #4: “I Like Myself”
This exercise may sound foolish, but it’s an easy way to give your positive energy a boost. Say “I like myself” 10 times, even if you need to say it through gritted teeth. It seems fruit-cakeish but you’ve just got to utter this sentence like you mean it. If you don’t, then do something so that you do. Say it like you mean it and actually LIKE yourself while you do it. You must convince yourself that you do. One of the most powerful anchors to failure is lack of self-esteem and the associated negative outlook. You must give yourself permission and feel that you deserve success.

Tired or being tired

I strongly believe that our physical well-being and mental well-being have a profound relationship with each other. Recently i have been to the gym doing some intense workout which took away so much energy from my body. To be a good sharp and to have a sexy shirt-less six-pack chest muscle body on the beach is not easy as one-two-three or A-B-C at all. We have to balance between the input and output of energy, dietry and sleeping time. When i am physically tired, i have two choices: one is to allow my mind to be tired too, and the other is to allow not. I am getting tired of being tired. The term tireness and laziness should also be distinguised. I am tired of being lazy. Let's rock and make everyday as exciting as tomorrow you are having a girlfriend, a new girlfriend indeed.

The 4th of July, 2008 in Bellevue Park

In the United States, Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, picnics, concerts, baseball games, political speeches and ceremonies, and various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. For full article read here.

The Independence Day is one of the biggest memorable events in America. Everyone has been waiting for the celebration of this ceremony weeks or months before its arrival. The most significant part of the 4th of July is the massive firework of the year. Pictures can say a thousand words more than i could think of. Here you are.

The Mask Of Beauty

Each and every day, human-being is becoming more and more obsessed with the way they look. They would spend several hours in front of the mirror to make sure there hair is eye-catching or in 2008 hairstyle catalogue, and their face is full of attraction. They get upset by a tiny pimple or any signs of make-down.

We are living in the world of competition. The one who has big sparkling eyes, long eyebrows, thin shinny lips, pointy nose, multi-color highlighted hair, curve body, etc. is the winner. The one who were born with not-so-good-looking figure or with disabilities are automatically dismissed. But this is not TRUE.

If we were taught from the day of our birth that the former type of person is considered ugly; on the other hand, the latter is pretty, then the whole perception of beauty is a contrast. In other words, we will logically see pretty person ugly and ugly person pretty.

The face is probably the most important part of body when the subject of physical beautiness is being discussed. Nevertheless, when the real beautiness is being evaluated, the personality trait consumes more importance. Ironically, beautiful face is nothing rather a structure of well-formed shape of face bone filled with good complex of skin cells or tissues to form organs such as eyes, ears, nose, etc.

Sometimes, i got stunned when i looked at my reflection in the mirror and noticed the detail of my appearance that i never pay attention before. Today if we start to notice the detail of each person face we meet, we will see deep down a real person behind that skin and feel an intimate connection. Don't just look at the surface, but don't give a prolong stare either. Look straight into the eyes and feel their presence mentally wired.

Our physical appearance plays a role as representation of who we physically are. But our brain is commander of who we emotionally, mentally, spiritually are. Is the person you look in the mirror really yourself? What if all we see is not truly what we see? Do you believe that one person sees things differently from anther? Who are we exactly? Would you rather have a good-looking friends who are not really listening to you or an average-looking friends whom you feel comfortable talking to?

I am writing until i don't know how to end my post with a valuable idea. I couldn't think of anything better this short quote which summarizes it all: Beauty does not last, but personality. The person you see as pretty or handsome today cannot be guaranteed to be the same next month or next year. The reverse is also true that the person you see as ugly cannot be guaranteed to be the same next month or next year. So why not treat everyone equally the way you want to be treated? Take Britney Spear as an example. She was one of the most heavenly, angelic, desired-to-be-with, beautiful females on earth. How long does it take for her to become less attractive? Not very long. By the way, who knows if tomorrow she will rock again? lolz. I was a fan of her; moreover, i am still a fan of her no matter what.

Oops, i forgot to mention that the green face on top is me. What inspires me to write this post is that artifact face i made from a little toy. Though my appreance always changes slighly from time to time, i will stay the same person internally.

How To Become An Active Reader

Have you ever found yourself reading a book word by word or page by page, yet little you understand what the writer is talking about? There are two type of reading habits, passive and active readings. Passive reading is reading without thinking or specific purposes. This includes reading a joke, a magazine, or anything for fun which are easily forgettable. Active reading is reading, feeling, understanding what the writer is writing. You engage with the text, both mentally and physically. Reading without learning from what you read is a waste of time.

Summary of how to become an active reader:
1. Skim ahead and jump back

2. Mark up the text-always have a pen and a notebook

  • Highlight and underline keywords
  • Circle unfamiliar words
  • Make marginal notes

- Questions?

- Agree or disagree?

- Connections

- Evaluations

3. Make specific observations

Detail of how to become an active reader:
1. Skim ahead and jump back:
Skimming ahead enables you to see what’s coming up in your reading. Page through the text you’re about to read. Notice how the text is broken down, what the main topics are, and the order in which they are covered. Notice key words and ideas that are boldfaced, bulleted, boxed, or otherwise highlighted. Skimming through the text beforehand will prepare you for what you are about to read. It’s a lot like checking out the hills and curves in the course before a cross-country race. If you know what’s ahead, you know how to pace yourself, so you’re prepared to handle what’s to come. When you finish your reading, jump back. Review the summaries, headings, and highlighted information in the text. Notice both what the author highlighted and what you highlighted. By jumping back, you help solidify in your mind the ideas and information you just read. You’re reminded of how each idea fits into the whole, how ideas and information are connected. When you make connections between ideas, you’re much more likely to remember them.

2. Mark up the text
Marking up the text creates a direct physical link between you and the words you’re reading. It forces you to pay closer attention to the words you read and takes you to a higher level of comprehension.
- Highlight and underline:
When you highlight or underline key words and ideas, you are identifying the most important parts of the text. There’s an important skill at work here: You can’t highlight
or underline everything, so you have to distinguish between the facts and ideas that are most important (major ideas) and those facts and ideas that are helpful but not so important (minor or supporting ideas). Highlight only the major ideas, so you don’t end up with a text that’s completely highlighted.

- Circle unfamiliar words:
One of the most important habits to develop is that of circling and looking up unfamiliar words and phrases. If possible, don’t sit down to read without a dictionary by your side. It is not uncommon for the meaning of an entire sentence to hinge on the meaning of a single word or phrase, and if you don’t know what that word or phrase means, you won’t understand the sentence. Besides, this habit enables you to quickly and steadily expand your vocabulary, so you’ll be a more confident reader and speaker. If you don’t have a dictionary readily available, try to determine the meaning of the word as best you can from its context. Then, make sure you look up the word as soon as possible so you’re sure of its meaning.

- Make marginal notes:
Recording your questions and reactions in the margins turns you from a passive receiver of information into an active participant in a dialogue. You will get much more out of the ideas and information you read about if you create a “conversation”with the writer. Here are some examples of the kinds of reactions you might write down in the margin or in your notebook:
Questions often come up when you read. They
may be answered later in the text, but by that time,
you may have forgotten the question! And if your
question isn’t answered, you may want to discuss it
with someone: “Why does the writer describe the
new welfare policy as ‘unfair’?” or “Why does the
character react in this way?”
■ Agreements and disagreements with the author
are bound to arise if you’re actively reading.Write
them down: “That’s not necessarily true!” or “This
policy makes a lot of sense to me.”

■ Connections you note can be either between the
text and something that you read earlier or
between the text and your own experience.
For example, “I remember feeling the same way
when I . . .” or “This is similar to what happened
in China.”
■ Evaluations are your way of keeping the author
honest. If you think the author isn’t providing sufficient
support for what he or she is saying or that
there’s something wrong with that support, say so:
“He says the dropping of the bomb was inevitable,
but he doesn’t explain why” or “This is a very
selfish reason.”

3. Make observations
Good readers know that writers use many different strategies to express their ideas. Even if you know very little about those strategies, you can make useful observations about what you read to better understand and remember the author’s ideas. You can notice, for example, the author’s choice of words; the structure of the sentences and paragraphs; any repetition of words or ideas; important details about people, places, and things; and so on.
This step—making observations—is essential because your observations (what you notice) lead you to logical inferences about what you read. Inferences are conclusions based on reason, fact, or evidence. You are constantly making inferences based on your observations, even when you’re not reading. For example, if you notice that the sky is full of dark, heavy clouds, you might infer that it is going to rain; if you notice that your coworker has a stack of gardening books on her desk, you might infer that she likes gardening. If you misunderstand what you read, it is often because you haven’t looked closely enough at the text. As a result, you base your inferences on your own ideas and experiences, not on what’s actually written in the text. You end up forcing your own ideas on the author (rather than listening to what the author has to say) and then forming your own ideas about it. It’s critical, then, that you begin to really pay attention to what writers say and how they say it.

SUPERCUT HAIRCUT

I hate to have a haircut because it's darn expensive in the U.S. I could have my hair cut ten times or for a whole year in my hometown,Cambodia, for the same amount of money, not to mention the tips. One interesting fact is that a hairdresser must have a license to perform their task.

The estimate time of my haircut is three minutes. That's the shortest time i have ever sat a haircut seat. As soon as i sat down, i was asked "How short do you want your hair cut?" OH man, that was hard to answer. Should i say very short, short enough for two months, meduim short, or whatever looks good. Ok let's look at the photo (a) before and (b) after the haircut.

How to embed a Flash/SWF extenstion file on a blog

Requirement:
1. Flash Player. To download click here
2. Medium Internet Speed Recommended.

While I was browsing in My Computer folder which is running of space, it reminded me of a challenging game i had been fond of long ago. It is called "HANGAROO". Have you ever played before? It's similar to a HANGMAN except a hangaroo was used instead of a man. The object is to save a hangaroo from being hung by correctly filling out the missing alphabets. If you wanna download this game to ur PC, click here.

Thus, i asked myself how possibly i could share this game with others since it is only on my computer. Of course, you can just search on Google "Play Hangaroo Online" and it will show a bunch a sites in a blink of eyes that allow you to play it. Then i asked myself how possibly i could embed this game on my blog. Oh oh.... I got no clue at all how to embed something from a website that don't give "Embed Code". It sounds impossible for someone with no html background knowledge. The first thing i did was searching on helpful Google "how to embed flash player game on a blog" or anything i can think of. But Google turned out to be helpless this time. Google could not help everything.

When there is a will, there is a way. I spent a good 2 hours to get it done. I am willing to share the how-to-do:
1. Open a website with this game**. I used this one www.2dplay.com/hangar/hangaroo-play.htm

2. In your browser (IE v.7 for example), Click on Page. Then View Source. Different browsers have different paths. In any cases, look for View Source.

3. Ctrl + F. Then type "embed" to find the embed code.
Here is a sample of what u need to look for.
embed src="http://www.2dplay.com/hangaroo/hangaroo.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="550" height="400">

Once you find it, copy and paste it to your blog post. That's pretty simple and i hope you could do.

**Note: I tried a couple websites but only this one worked. So you might try and see what works.

**Note: You can embed flash or swf file such as games or greeting cards.

**Note: You can change the width and height to best fit your blog space.

Dare to fail

Have you every read this book? This book is a combination of inspiration and comics series. It's very true that everyone makes mistakes during their path of life. Within each and every mistake and failure, we learn the stepping stones to success. If we look at failure as an experience, not a grief or regret, we will definately become a true winner. Without further to say, i enclose a couple of funny, yet spirit-lifting cartoons. Let's laugh out loud at our mistakes.
