Are You Blessed?

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness..........you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.

If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation.......you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.

If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep...you are richer than 75% of this world.

If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace....... you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.

If your parents are still alive and still married........you are very rare, even in the United States.

If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful.....you are blessed because the majority can, but most do not.

If you prayed yesterday and today........you are in the minority because you believe God does hear and answer prayers.

If you can read now, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world that cannot read at all.

Bye Bye 2008

How was your whole 2008? I bet it was memorable and amazing.
Finally, it's time to say "Goodbye" to the year of 2008 and "Welcome" to the fresh start of 2009 where you will spend the next 365 days living your life. In such a blink of an eye, a year has gone by leaving both good and bad times, cheerfulness and sadness, ups and downs that we have been through. Today is the last day of 2008. It's time to ask ourselves or a family member or a friend some interesting questions:
1. What have you accomplished over the last 12 months?
2. When was the moment that you were proud of yourself?
3. What positive and negative changes have you made?
4. What have you learnt from last year mistakes? Name three.
5. What was the best thing that happened to you this year?
6. Who have always been there when you needed the most?
7. Who did you think about when you were lonely?
8. What's something you go through that was really tough?
9. What new people did you meet that are now in your life?
10. What character trait did you develop most this year?

I want you to take your time think of the questions before you give the answers. Some of them may take time and are not easy to answer right away. This is a way you can keep progress of yourself and help your mind focus on what and who matters to you.

Whether they are big or small, long term or short-term goals over the next 12 months, you must have goals. Goals is like a guide book when you are in a new town, like a candle when you are in darkness, like a motivator behind your back. You can make everyday closer and closer to your goals where your dreams come true. However, goals should be realistic. Below are things to consider about:
- Improve your social life by making more friends or builiding stronger relationship if you have had enough
- Be more financially successful though the world economy is collapsing
- Finding the love of your life, your soul mate.
- Pursue a higher education
- Losing the weight or staying fit
- Love yourself more than ever
- Learn new skills: photoshop eidtor-i.e.
- Visiting new places, and old friends
- Returning home

My Ipod Family

Finally, my long-awaited Ipod Shuffle which i had ordered online five days ago arrived today. One reason i like online shopping is that it gives me a thrill (somehow exciting) whenever i recieve my order. In other words, it makes me feel like living with a goal (waiting for something) and purpose (what to do next when i get it). By acknowleding the things that make me happy can definitely lead me to a happier life. With goals and purposes, my daily life is meaningful. In constrast, without them, it is meaningless. I want to make a huge leap to reach my ultimate goal but it seems that the cliche "Rome wasn't built in one day." is true. I believe that each day is a stepping stone on the road of success. There are always obstacles, but as long as i don't give up, i will overcome. Ok, first i was talking about ipod and then about goals, success. Geez. No relevance. Let's go back to ipod and then just ipod, nothing else.

From left to right:
1. My first Ipod series, Ipod Classic 80Gb: this guy is 20Gb bigger in hard disk size than my laptop. Having it is like having whole gallery of media in my pocket.
2. The second ipod i got, Ipod Touch 16Gb: this guy is almost like a pocket pc, it saves me a lot of time. I used my laptop less after i got it.
3. Welcome the newbie of the family, Ipod Shuffle 1Gb: with its small size and back clip holder, it is convenient for my gym workout and on the go.
However, my first ever mp3 player is this one. I haven't touched it for a long time. Love it still.
PS: Seriously, i don't mean to show off.

Freezing Day Begins

"Brrrrrrrrrrr" It's freezing cold. As of today, the temperature in Redmond is 27F (-2.7c). I was recently asked whether i prefered living in a hot or cold weather. I then answered i prefered winter to summer due to the fact that i don't want to have darker skin. Snow had been falling heavily that my car was covered with it. Snow can be beautiful but it causes more disadvantages than advantages. Examples include difficulties and risks in driving, wiping your car before you leave, staying at home all day, you name it because i don't know other reasons. Lolz. One good thing about snowing is CLASS CANCELLATION. What? I'm such a lazy student. Yes i am.

First up, i was snow-writing "I LOVE YOU" for everyone i love, esp my mum, but i couldn't do it. So i did this instead. It has the same meaning.

This is the first time i made a heart-sharp snowball. My clothes were all dirty and my hands were numb.

Question: is snow edible? Of course, it is, but chance is you might have diarrhea after all.

It is the same spot i took a picture last year.
Taken from window. Does it look sad and lonely at all? Kinda.
That's it for today. Happy Holidays.

Art of listening

Hmmm? What's that? Pardon? Can you say that again? If you like such questions, you listen with one ear...the other is reserved for your cell phone, conversation at adjacent tables or the mention of your own name by someone else in the room. Other reasons include you are trying to generate your what u want to say rather than listening, or your thoughts are occupied with other things. It's not too late to know that you might hurt the talking person in a way that her words are not being taken seriously and plain ignored. Put it this way, you don't value what they have to say. Unless you are good at pretending, they could feel it. It is even more unacceptable to be pretending to listen while you are looking away at something else. If you are not interested in the conversation, you should try to change the topic or frankly set the time limit like "I have a couple more minutes then i got to go. Tell me more when you have a chance. I definately want to hear it." or something nice you can think of.

I had a friend in high school whom i believe to be an excellent listener. Every time i said something he always opened both his eyes the size of a fried egg(just exxagerating) looking straight at mine, and his ears seemed to be ready to absorb anything, and his mouth opened up accordingly to a big or a little surprise. He made it like every word he heard is his oxygen. He didn't talk about his part a lot but asked and listened attentively. He started his sentence with "You .... or We....." not "I....., My......, Myself...." He rarely interrupted unless it was important enough to get to the point. By the way he was not an alien, though he looked like (sometimes) lolz.

Having someone around to listen is a gift. You can have a great conversation with someone even with your mouth less open, but your heart more open. Like any skills, you can practice listening everyday until it becomes second nature. You can learn a lot more from people by focusing on listening and asking than by talking about your own storyline. I don't mean that you should not talk about yourself at all but at least you should make sure listening is also a part of your conversation. And of course, even though i couldn't hear what you want to say, i am listening to what you have to comment. P-)

Thanksgiving

In just 30 minutes, the day of Thanksgiving arrives. This year Thanksgiving falls on the 24th of November, the same day that my Uncle and Aunt leaving for a delightful trip to Mexico. Speaking of that, the fear of being at home alone strikes my heart. I am really fearful of loneliness, quietness and darkness. Sigh, i inevitably have to live my life by myself one day.
Thanksgiving also reminds me of a comedy part where Mr. Bean's head got trapped inside a huge turkey. It was too funny. Just thinking about makes me giggle. To me, Thanksgiving marks a family reunion having a feast where turkey is probably the main menu and a start of the holiday shopping season. I have a little plan tomorrow:
- Drive my Uncle and Aunt to the airport
- Vacuum my room and have my clothes washed
- Go to the gym
- Go to a relative's house for Thanksgiving celebration (That's a good part of tomorrow)
After tomorrow, i am heading for my weekend work again. Guess what, I am not going to enjoy the Black Friday. I don't understand why people go shopping at 4 o'clock in the morning till midnight. The mall merchandise is going to be wiped away by shoppers.
